Randomly: I think it's just the Blacktail Deer. Mule Deer have much larger ears, and wider spread between the beams of the antlers. Blacktail and Whitetail share the similar racks.
But the placement of the deer is right smack in the center of the photo - maybe next time try a different angle of it? Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great photo, and I know how hard it is to get a shot of a wild animal (and sometimes domesticated). The focus is great as you can see every little stitch of fur on him, not to mention he's actually looking right at the camera.

But the deer isn't centered. He's definitely frame-right.
